WonderCon 2026 has ended
Friday March 27, 2026 8:30pm - 9:30pm PDT
Vampires and werewolves, the most popular monsters in movies and literature, exist because of folklore—local legends passed on from generation to generation to explain the weird and unknown. Small towns and regions around the globe are rich with these legends, and they can be ground zero for storytellers looking to create the next great thriller. The panelists of Neighborhood Nightmares share their knowledge and experience with small-town horror and talk about ways to use these legends to create compelling stories that keep readers and viewers up at night. From a haunted house in Amityville to the Jersey Devil to Rougarous, there are plenty of legends to explore, terrify, and inspire your creativity. New York Times bestseller Peter Clines (Gods Junk Drawer, The Broken Room), Nebula and BSFA Award finalist Jendia Gammon (Atacama, Doomflower), award-winning producer and comic book writer Rodney Barnes (Killadelphia, Blacula), and horror/paranormal author Denise Tapscott (Gypsy Kisses and Voodoo Wishes) will join moderator and award-winning horror and urban fantasy author Dennis K. Crosby (Death's Legacy, Death's Debt) for a deep dive into the thrilling tales that added to their love of horror and helped guide some of their storytelling.
