Creators Assemble: Comics Camaraderie, A Networking Event

Together, creators, publishers, comic shop owners, teachers, and library workers have brought greater acceptance to comics and fan culture. Attendees can take a break from hectic convention life to experience speed-dating-style networking with diverse comics enthusiasts from all backgrounds. This year's lineup includes comics industry insiders Meghan Fitzmartin, Gabriel Valentin, Kristen Parraz, Charlie Stickney, Eric Gladstone, Francis Stokes, Michelle Montrose, Omar Morales, Jonathan Chance, Jeffrey Snow, Keith Foster, and more. Comics librarians and educators include Theresa Rojas, Matthew Atherton, Joel Bakker, Joe Barrette, Moni Barrette, Elias Campos, Janie Ghinazzi, Jenni Powell, Sophia Juarez, Annie Fite, Jack Phoenix, and Dan Wood.

Meet educators who bring academic, social, and emotional lessons to life using the popular arts. Everyone is welcome, and there is no such thing as a stupid question. Which popular arts characters resonate with learners and inspire creativity and engagement? How about discussing superhero themes in the classroom? Share how various fandoms can enhance academic curriculum and instruction. With super educators Mike Cruz (elementary teacher, Temecula Valley Unified), Derek Heid (high school English teacher, Temecula Valley Unified), Jason Charles (high school ELD teacher, Temecula Valley Unified), Lorran Garrison (school psychologist, Little Brainstorm), Justin Tracy (drama teacher, Little Brainstorm), and Jaime Diego Chavez (counselor, San Diego Unified). Mingle with them, other teachers, and life-long learners in a fun and informal setting.

Artists are encouraged to bring sample work, ideally sequential pages and/or storyboard sequences. Writers should bring two pitchable ideas for discussion. Emmy Award–winning TV writer, storyboard artist, and New York Times bestselling author Joshua Pruett will provide mini feedback sessions, offering guidance toward immediate and long-term career goals.
