Afrofuturism: "Black to the Future VIII: How to Pitch to Hollywood"
Friday March 27, 2026 4:30pm - 5:30pm PDT
It doesn't matter whether you've written the most brilliant and entertaining script the industry has ever seen; if you can't pitch it, you're dead in the water. Do you have what it takes? If you found yourself on an elevator with Steven Spielberg and he was getting off on the eighth floor, what would you say to him? What could you possibly pitch to him that would motivate him to say, "Wow! That's an intriguing idea. Let's go to my office and discuss it some more?" Let's find out. In this panel, a handful of individuals will be selected to pitch an idea to the moderator and fellow WonderCon attendees, as the panel simulates that stressful yet promising elevator ride. Each pitch will be judged on its merits and voted on by the audience. Moderated by Jimmy Diggs (original content producer, screenwriter for Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine).

They continue to have great developmental value, especially for young autistic and special needs readers. Panel moderator Britton Payne (entertainment attorney, executive director of The Autism Scene), John Jennings (writer/editor, Marvel Super Stories), and Hannah Bogen Novak, M.S., CCC-SLP (speech and language therapist) discuss the origin of the venture, the structure of the stories, the "far-out" concepts (including the first black Spider-Woman, Spider-Man vs Jaws, and the infamous Thanos-Copter), and the modern developmental value of the 57-issue run and its impact on modern comics for kids.
